Does Texas require a general contractor's license?

No - Texas does not license general contractors statewide. What if there's clearly work done but no permit on file?

Certain renovations, additions, and system replacements legally require a permit in Austin. If you can see evidence of work - a new addition, an updated electrical panel, a converted garage - with nothing matching in the permit history, that's worth raising with the seller, contractor, or a licensed inspector before moving forward.
